VetMED Veterinary Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our team! Location:
202 N Walnut St, Bay City, MI 48706 Shift Details:
This is a full-time position (30
hours/week).
Compensation:
$18 - $21/hr with a 20% Shift differential for Urgent Care hours.
Shift:
Our office hours are as follows:
Sunday 10 am - 10 pm Monday 8 am - 10 pm (5pm - 10 pm Urgent Care hours) Tuesday - Friday 8am - 6pm Saturday 10 am - 10 pm Shift Details:
We are looking for a candidate to work every other weekend Saturday and Sunday and Monday Evenings.
This position will alternate between General Practice hours and Urgent Care hours.
Skills:
We need someone with at least 2 years of Veterinary Hospital experience.
We need someone that has proficiency with client communication, medical terminology and restraint experience.
This will be a fast paced environment and we need someone that can anticipate the needs of the team as well as work efficiently.
Vetmed Veterinary Hospital is a 3 doctor practice that sees dogs, cats and exotics.
We offer a large array of services including:
Orthopedic surgeries, laser therapy and new this year, acupuncture (coming this fall).
Most of our team is Fear Free certified and we have a goal to get the hospital certified by the end of 2024.
We also love our feline patients and have a feline dedicated room with steps on the walls, a window seat, feliway and a cat tower.
We invest in our team by providing CPR training as well as Fear Free training that the clinic funds.
This training is usually expected to be completed within a certain amount of time from the time of hire.
Our Urgent Care has been a hit with the community and we are looking to expand our team.

How you'll make an impact:
Our Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in all of their duties The Veterinary Assistant helps to prepare animals for exams and surgery.
The Veterinary Assistant aids in performing medical treatments.
The Veterinary Assistant will perform or prepare laboratory tests.
The Veterinary Assistant will administer medications under the direction of a Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician.
The Veterinary Assistant will obtain and properly handle/prepare in-house and laboratory specimens (cytology, blood draws, blood smear, fecal, etc.
) The Veterinary Assistant works in cooperation with staff to attend to any immediate needs.
The Veterinary Assistant handles animals and their owners in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner, and inform staff and clients of any pertinent medical information related to animal care.
The Veterinary Assistant maintains a healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the animals.
Qualifications:
Physical demands and work environment The Veterinary Assistant must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker.
Requires sufficient ambulatory skills.
The Veterinary Assistant must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
The Veterinary Assistant is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
The Veterinary Assistant must be fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.
The Veterinary Assistant must be able to exchange accurate information with all clients and team members.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
